Advantages of solar panels

At Egg, we spend plenty of time singing the praises of solar panels, but what are the key advantages to anyone with an interest in solar technology?

If solar panels have been part of your consideration for your home, maybe it’s time to make the switch

From lower energy costs to fighting climate change, there are many advantages of solar panels, and here they are

The solar revolution is well underway and more people than ever want to get involved and go green. At Egg, we spend plenty of time singing the praises of solar panels, but what are the key advantages to anyone with an interest in solar technology?

In this blog, we’ll lay out the key advantages of solar panels. If you’re sitting on the fence with solar, maybe you’ll see the light (and it’ll be sustainable).

Lower ongoing energy costs

We’ve all read the latest news on increasing energy prices. And we know that this will be a concern to many of you. At Egg, we want to help.

It’s no wonder that home solar solutions are on the up when homeowners can slash their energy bills. By producing, using and storing your own energy with both solar panels and battery storage, this combination of green home solutions can save you as much as 90% on your energy bills

Although there is a significant upfront cost to solar panels, there's no denying they are a good investment. The money saved in energy bills can go towards offsetting the cost of installation. Not to mention, our solar panels come with a 20-year guarantee. When energy prices are constantly fluctuating, you won’t be caught out by unpredictable changes.

Limited environmental damage

When it comes to making the switch to solar energy, the environmental impact is likely to be a large deciding factor. Energy produced by solar panels causes significantly less environmental damage than fossil fuel-generated counterparts.

When it comes to our fight against climate change, fossil fuels are the biggest contributor to rising CO2 levels. Generating your own energy using solar panels dramatically reduces your reliance on fossil fuel-generated energy from the grid. Every home that installs solar panels is making a mark on its carbon footprint.

With environmental concerns at the forefront of the energy conversation, solar energy could be the important first step towards a greener home and future.

Renewable energy

By definition, a renewable energy source means the energy can’t be used up.

To improve your efficiency even further and use excess energy generated by your solar panels, you’ll need a battery storage system. The Tesla Powerwall is just one example of this kind of technology. And you’re in luck. We can also install this in your home for even greener energy.

The amount of available solar energy is roughly 170,000TWh an hour. For context, the average detached house uses just over 4,000kwh in a year

However, this will obviously depend on a number of factors - including the pitch of your roof, the direction your roof faces, the number of panels you install and the time of year (you can never quite rely on the British weather!)

Reliability

Questions of reliability always crop up when you invest in new technology.

It might surprise you (or it might not) that many people have gone solar because it’s so reliable.

NREL carried out a study on the reliability of solar energy. They inspected 54,500 panels that had been installed between 2000 and 2015.

For every 10,000 panels, 5 had failed. A minimal 0.05%.

Range of products

One of the reasons solar energy has picked up steam over recent years is the huge jumps in the quality and affordability of solar power. These days, solar power isn’t a pie in the sky idea. It’s a fully realised idea that has come a long way since the early days.

In 2022, there are solar energy systems to suit a range of needs.

At the higher end of the spectrum, there are solar power systems that are designed to perform well for a very long time. We’ll be happy to help you with your quote today.

There are solar panels to accommodate a range of different needs. For example, thermal panels for people who mostly use energy for heating and want to lower their annual costs.

Prices of solar panels in the UK vary depending on which system you have installed and what size. These can range anywhere between £5, 000 - 10,000.

Energy independence

It’s never been more important for homeowners to take back control of their own energy. More people than ever are searching for ways to gain more energy independence.

With a robust system, it’s possible to run a home completely efficiently. You could, if you wanted, go completely independent from the grid.

Take a look at our blog to find out more.

Long warranties

Companies that produce solar panels build in long lasting warranties. Our panels, for example, will generate clean energy for you for well over 20 years. You’ll also have a 15 year warranty for the added peace of mind.

Take the risk out of switching to solar energy.

Cheapest energy around

Solar energy has been declared the cheapest form of energy as of 2020

There's never been a cheaper way to produce green energy. It’s considerably cheaper than oil and gas. As the technology evolves and improves, it’s likely become even more affordable.

Why might I not be able to switch to solar?

You know by now that we’re here to be your solar cheerleaders. But before you throw yourself into the process, you should know the things that might be a barrier to clean energy.

• You don’t have enough roof space (an 8-panel system requires a space of 2 small car parking spaces). It might be more than you think!

• Your roof is in a state of disrepair or very unstable

• The roof is thatched or natural stone. You need a very strong and stable surface for your panels.

• Your roof’s become very uneven or has lots of obstacles (like lots of skylights or dormer windows).

We’ll be happy to talk to you about what you can do to best prepare for solar.

The advantages of solar energy are plain to see and the solar energy movement shows no signs of slowing down. If solar panels have been part of your consideration for your home, maybe it’s time to make the switch.

Whatever your solar needs are, there's a product and panel that’s just right for you.
