Clean energy company Egg (www.crackingenergy.com) has beaten out more than 20 entrants to win the Best New Product or Service (Domestic) award at the EVIE Awards for its pay-monthly home EV charger.

The winners of the EVIEs - the Electric Vehicle Innovation & Excellence Awards - were announced in a central London ceremony on 5th October 2022. Egg’s win comes less than a year since the brand was launched and Egg’s affordable and hassle-free home EV chargers first hit the market.

Egg was the first UK company that enabled customers to pay for a home EV charger on a monthly basis, offering an alternative to a costly upfront fee as the government’s EVHS scheme drew to a close for many drivers.

During a six-month innovation phase, Egg continually listened to customer feedback and evolved its proposition to its now-award-winning pay-monthly model.

With the Egg EV Charger Plan, customers pay £35 per month over three years for a fully installed untethered 7.2 kW EV charger with a repair-or-replace promise. This price includes a consumer credit loan for £30 per month with 0% APR (subject to credit check) bundled with the Egg Plus plan for £5 per month, which offers full maintenance cover, should anything go wrong. Egg customers can check their eligibility for home charger installation within a few clicks at the website www.crackingenergy.com and can book an installation date with as little as two weeks’ notice.

Alternatively, customers preferring to pay for their Egg home charger upfront can pay a one-off fee of £882 including installation, with the Egg Plus plan an additional £5 per month for three years (and rolling thereafter) to offer that same peace of mind for exactly the same cost.

The EVIE Awards judges praised Egg’s proposition, saying in particular that it is “ideal for lease or company car users who don’t have £1,000 ready cash for a chargepoint”.

“We’re absolutely delighted that Egg has been recognised by the EVIEs in such a prestigious category,” commented Gareth Greppellini, chief commercial officer at Egg. “We came to market with the intent to ease the process through which a home charger can be ordered, installed and paid for; and as an agile company, we remain committed to continual innovation so we can help more customers realise the benefits of electric vehicles.”

Egg takes the complexity out of home EV charging by offering a best-in-class fast charger, compatible with all vehicles, that is available at one competitive price but with the flexibility of paying monthly or upfront. Egg is a sole point of contact for customers through the journey of research, installation and ongoing aftercare, which is a great source of reassurance to customers who are largely adopting unfamiliar technology for the first time.

For those with the means, charging an EV at home is the most convenient and cost-effective way to run an electric vehicle. For drivers keen to explore other sustainable and potentially cost-saving technologies, Egg also provides and installs solar panels and batteries which can allow drivers to charge their EVs at home using solar power.

Enquiries for solar panels were up as much as 830% at Egg this summer, indicating that with rising energy costs - as well as high fuel costs already being seen at the pump - householders are looking to invest in cleaner energy solutions such as EVs and solar panels in order to make longer-term savings.
